Trying to portray the slow-moving, yet energetic dances these strange beings get themselves into. It feels like they are dancing into the future... I don’t know about you but I’ve always been transfixed by the surface of birch bark; it can be all colours simultaneously, it can glow, be diffuse, matte and glossy. It has a seemingly infinite ability to be more than one thing at once. Birch bark has been used as an art material for millennia, it has been used to preserve food, it can be used to cure fungal infections. It is waterproof and as such is a reliable form of tinder. The oldest maps of America were made on birch bark by the Wabanaki people. I think it’s pretty special, I like looking at it...
