🔴 Bogdan - Creepy Pet - 29x42cm oil and acrylic on canvas

Bogdan here has caused quite the stir. People have openly derided this painting, it seems to really unsettle folk. Art; as so often is the case is neither about beauty or acceptance, but reaction and emotion. Obviously I’m searching to convey something more than a sense of place at the moment and going by people’s reactions I have managed to achieve this.

Some of my close friends have been going through a really hard and dark time and in an attempt to process all that is happening I have taken to creating these characters. I can’t explain why, but when your emotions are bubbling over it is usual that the first impulse that occurs to you is the one you will follow.

This series of creepy pets is a reaction to a terrible and horrific accident that has happened to a life long friend. I’ve been unfortunate to have been touched by death a lot in my 40 years. In some cases people close to me have been caught in a limbo, locked in state, somewhere between life and death, it is very hard to deal with. The inability to do anything to help is paralysing and desperate. Although the people are still with you on this mortal plane they are yet so far away. It’s incredibly heavy … it’s hard to convey …

I know these paintings are weird and stupid but they have been my way of trying to process all these feelings.
