Wandering the industrial yards of Vík can be rewarding. Not only do you find views like this between the breakwaters, but you also get to peruse the incredible machines that the natives have built and procured. There’s a real risk that the town will be washed away when Katla or Eyjafjallajökull next go off, so they keep some robust vehicles about as a means of escape. Vík still has a frontier town vibe, though tourism is steadily taking over. The place had expanded significantly since my last trip, which is no bad thing I would say. Although, most tourists appear oblivious to the constant and impending doom above them.
Collection very much preferred. Can be crated and couriered at great expense.
