Shooglenifty - 25 years - Acid Croft - Live Music Videos
Shooglenifty are living legends. They've been on the go for 25 years now, they are the inventors of 'ACID CROFT' and my life would have been very different had they not spread their magical, hypnotic, fu*ked up sound around the village halls of the Highlands during the 90s. In fact without Shooglenifty, Martyn Bennett or Wolfstone, I probably would never have got involved with music to the extent I have. Before discovering this lot it's fair to say that although I respected folk music, I deemed the whole scene as lame, tired and devoid of any artistic conviction. These guys helped change that and gave me the impetus to go forth and create some culture of my own. And that is exactly what these guys have done, they have created and maintained something that can be regarded as a genuine contribution to Scottish culture and I take my hat off to them. Not only do they make classic music, they also project a swagger and ingenuity that progressive bands of other genres would envy. Shoogles are magnificently different, they maintain that punk edge they had in the beginning and continue to evolve. Any band that can keep going for 25 years deserves respect regardless of their creative output. But in Shoogles' case it's fair to say that they have never slipped, all the albums are great and I have yet to witness a gig where they don't thoroughly rock the place. So to say I'm happy to have got the chance to make these videos is an understatement. Yes I'm a little miffed with the quality of a lot of what we captured but it's live and loose and this I can't fault. Lets face it, if I portrayed them with smooth movement and pin sharp focus it probably wouldn't serve them that well. I would love to make a proper music video with them and with the new album on its way I'll keep my fingers crossed on that score.Kudos to Crazy for the doing a great mix on the night and recording it for me.And extra Kudos to Misha Somerville and Alasdair Carmichael for being the other camera men.Classic.
