The wild Highlands - up close and beautiful
So This is a follow up post for Landscapes, Landscape, Lndscps, Lndscp. Where that post concentrated mainly on the wide angle this post concentrates in the main on the extreme close up or at the very least the far away...I love macro, it is great fun. Technically quite difficult but extremely rewarding. Along with my rejuvenated love for grand landscapes my trip to Sutherland has also reignited a love of the miniature. The universe is indeed a wonderful thing, it's scale is immense but also infinitesimal. Small things can have a big effect on very large things, it is known to be true and many illustrious physicists and mathematicians have gone to great lengths to prove it. One of the great things about being outside is the ability to look far, far away, out to the horizon. To climb a mountain and see for miles and miles. Whilst in the next moment look down by your feet, to kneel down and squint at the tinniest flower. A beetle going about it's business or a midge sucking your blood. You are either close up or far away aren't you? I mean we are built on a relatively small to medium scale, we believe we are big, that our civilisation and infrastructure is huge and important. But it's not! Not even on the scale of the Earth never mind the universe. Earth in the scale of the known universe is tiny. So yeah what I'm trying to say is...STOP LOOKING AT YOUR PHONE! LOOK AT A TREE! A BIRD! EVEN THE DIRT IN THE GUTTER! IT'S ALL INTERESTING AND WONDERFUL. ALL OF IT! EVERY SINGLE THING! ALL COMPLICATED AND UNIQUE! LORD KNOWS I LOOK AT MY PHONE TO MUCH & THIS COMPUTER SCREEN, NONE OF THIS DIGITAL STUFF EXISTS, IT'S ALL FAKE! BUY A PRINT! A BOOK! A RECORD! SOMETHING REAL AND ENDURING! BE GLAD TO BE ALIVE! OUR TIME IS FLEETING!I'm away to look at the Rain :) x
