Skipinnish - The Seventh Wave - Album Cover & Merch
Skipinnish eh! The band have enjoyed great success, it is fair to say that they are total grafters and are creating music and videos which are very popular. They have got into the top 40 on itunes and their videos are well up into hundreds of thousands views. This artwork much like the previous album was based around a trusty boat. The 'Dawn Trader' OB461 out of Oban. Those boys love their boats. The linework for the cover illustration was completely hand drawn, though it must be said I had quite a few attempts at getting the wave into a state that we were all happy about. Initially I took influence from that famous japanese wave. 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa' by Katsushika Hokusai. However I decided this style was to reminiscent of that painting and worked hard to evolve what I had into what you see here. It's better, more original and suits the band better too.The line work was coloured in the computer and I used paper textures, and ink washes and swirls to create a more organic, 3 dimensional gritty look. Unconsciously the Japanese influence manifested itself in the large yellow sun that runs as a motif throughout the cover and the bands recent posters. I also drew a little wave pictograph that reinforces the album title and this was used across the merchandise too. Getting such a detailed and tonally rich piece of artwork back to a state that could be screen printed as one colour on the t-shirts was quite a challenge I can tell you.Check out http://www.skipinnish.com/ for all the bands wares and live dates. They are selling out across the board! I look forward to working with the band in the future, I am sure they will go from strength to strength. More power to 'em.
