Salt House - CD Album Art
So this Album Cover turned into a wee tour round Scotland at least for me. The photos that make up the textural backgrounds for all the pages come from far and wide. The cover texture is from the door of a run down pump house between Acharacle and Salen - West Highlands, the inside uses a rock texture taken from the quarry wall at Cambusbarron - Stirling and the inner booklet pages use wall textures from Govan, Port Dundas, Loch Lomond sea-life centre plus a picture hook on wallpaper from a derelict croft in Evanton. I have a disposition for hoarding all these textures as I mill about the place. They tend to come in useful in my line of work and in this case ended up forming the backbone of the whole project.I also did the logotype for the band. This is a bespoke font developed just for the band, you can see the various options in the development sheet at the bottom. I'm glad the band went with the more modern / european look. It's simple, fresh and with the use of block foiling on the print it contrasts the grungy, scuzzed up background nicely I think. It has to be said that there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to reach a result with this album art. Bands by default are usually full of creative characters all with their own ideas of how their music should be represented. It took to long sessions in the studio to get a consensus on the multitude of concepts I churned out. In the end it all turned out well but not without some pointed discussions on taste, design and even philosophy. The ability to sit round the screen and design on the fly with the clients throwing in their thoughts, ideas and gripes is a boon. It saves time and essentially distills everyones creative desires down into a cohesive end product that hopefully reflects the music and the hard work and passion that went in to composing, playing and recording it.You can buy the album here. http://www.salthousemusic.com/The band photos were taken by Archie Macfarlane. http://archiemacfarlane.com/
