G&T - Dreamy, Etherial, Female Band Photography

Firstly apologies for the title of this post. I had this misfortune of being hacked a few months ago and my Search Engine standing took a battering. So I am writing to please robots at the moment. So Gráinne and Tina were after pretty, spring time photos, swathed in colour,  light and Blossom. No easy feat in our proud land. We had to wait a while for the trees to come out and it was interesting to notice on my late night recce's that Kelvingrove was the first to yield any discernible pinkness. In fact up in Mugdock my initial first choice of location there was nothing, nada, zilch. Just a bare muddy expanse, not good for happy, pretty and colourful results. Now in the instagram era, an analogue vibe is key, so I went for the most 1970's set up I could muster. In the pictures I have chosen to highlight here I used my 1978, vivitar, 28mm, f2 lens, it is scratched to hell, has a rounded front element and is the shonkiest lens I own - it cost the princely sum of £18. Even on digital bodies this lens has an ability to add character and grit to create interesting and technically imperfect pictures. Add to this some equally cheap polaroid filters for soft focus, flaring and warmth and you have a set up that turns your perfectly engineered and optimised digital camera into a student level, 35mm camera from the mid 70's. Now I would have loved to have risked doing this shoot on actual film but digital is more convenient, editable and my film setups are far from reliable not to mention expensive to run and process. These pictures here are considerably more analogue edits than what I presented to the ladies. And the very excellent digital film emulation is provided by VSCO. Band Photography is a tricky proposition, it's not easy to do something distinct but in this case, by degrading the quality at every step of the process I think I've hit on something that has real vibe and mood.So there you have it some nice vintage inspired photos. Maybe not as happy go lucky as the brief had stated but certainly pretty and nice. There were definitely some smiley ones in there but as is my want; these are my favourites.Presently we're working on the album cover and the record should be out pretty soon. I'll keep you posted.
