Got the book back from the printers and it looks good, has a sort of matte cover which was a pleasant change from the expected gloss. Misha has set up his own publishing company stingray books to get this one out so we’re all hoping he’ll find / write some more titles to publish. All proceeds from the sale of the books will be going to the charity hand in hand
The books sell at £6 and are available from www.mishasomerville.com
Had some bother with the upgrade of flash player recently. For one reason or another the mp3 / video player on the boxclub site caused it to run very slowly and eventualy crash; not good. So instead of trying to figure out what the problem was I replaced the player with a simpler .xml driven one. Unfortunately this means we’ve lost the intergrated video player. As a stop gap measure the button now links to the bands myspace video page.
The band are about to head out on tour in March, so check out the site if your in need of some accordion based entertainments. boxclub.co.uk
After much humming and hawing I think we’ve got a logo for MK whistles. A website is currently under development and should be open for business in the coming months. Looking forward to working on this project, as it represents a slight departure from my graphically driven flash extravaganzas. We’re going for clean precision on this one. The project will be in collaboration with i-spy glagow who will be programing and coding, while i faff around with pixels in photoshop. Watch this space …
Trade afro.com has had an update. The site was dormant for a while due to the sites e-commerce partner tradmusic.com falling victim to hackers and having to close down. Harsh! Any how, trade afro have partnered up with skinandstrings.com and their djembes are now being shipped all over the world, the project has provided the African craftsmen with tools and a workshop and the quality of product has sky rocketed since. Here’s the info on the project. tradeafronews.wordpress.com. There is also further info about the money raised by the old blind dogs to fund the project @ www.oldblinddogs.co.uk
Had a sound time in Edinburgh this weekend hanging out with the family. Went to the Gallery of modern art as they had some activities for the kids on. Bags of art it was called and Breagha had great craic making and sticking hats on to wifies. Downstairs they had an exhibition called the Island man, it’s the sureal depiction of an imaginary island from the mind of Charles Avery. He’s from Oban so that’s probably where the inspiration came from. The work is fantastic ranging from detailed maps of his imagined world, to sculptures made out of parts of llama, wolf and ostrich, but what grabbed my attention were his pencil drawings. They are simply stunning. Stylish, detailed and atmospheric. I am thoroughly inspired, so I’ve attached some of mine and breaghas inspired scribblings. Check out Charles Avery at doggerfisher.com
All hail the Somervilles. Another piece of work for the Somerville clan here. This time for Helena, who is starting a Spanish emersion course.
The site is based around the joomla cms system. This is the first time I’ve used this system and I found it a little frustrating to use, a lot of moving from menu to menu and the odd bug here and there. Not to do the system down – I can see how it would be usefull for more complex, content heavy sites than this one. Any way it’s provided us with a fun and more importantly expandable site.
